Work Experience

Company Confidential - Boulder, CO
Software Engineer

At the request of this employer, I am not disclosing information about this company. It would be available to potential employers.

Feb. 2004 - Jul. 2005
Zoto, Inc - Oklahoma City, OK
Developer

About Zoto: Zoto provides a place online for people to organize, store and blog their digital photos. Being a startup, everyone at Zoto shares in the creative process, the progress of the company, and the inherent risk of a new venture.

Key Contributions:
  • Using Python and Twisted, I implemented the backend server cluster that manages all of Zoto's content. Working with the original system architect, who designed the storage schema and its features, I was responsible for the practical design and implementation of the backend software. I also worked with two web developers, the founder, and a handful of other employees.
  • Developed surprisingly efficient way of providing Python API services to PHP over xmlrpc and auto-generated wrapper methods.
Feb. 2002 - Feb. 2004
Rackspace Managed Hosting - San Antonio, TX
CORE Team Developer

About Rackspace: Rackspace Managed Hosting is a dedicated hosting firm in San Antonio, TX. Rackspace has a reputation for quality and value with its Fanatical Support™ brand of customer service. I believe Rackspace is the first "Internet company" to also be a company that achieved profitability through the mantra of doing whatever it takes to make the customer happy.

Key Contributions:
  • I played a key role in implementing Extreme Programming at Rackspace. With our growing needs as a company, I took the initiative in promoting Extreme Programming as a departmental strategy, educating my peers on its methodology, and leading the effort to get it implemented.
  • On a small team, I engineered some of the inner workings of Rackspace's CRM/Ticketing system, as well as helped develop and test components of its user interface. This ticketing system is used both by internal users, as well as clients on Rackspace's award winning customer portal, My.Rackspace.
  • I play a vital role in maintaining and managing Rackspace's internal "CORE" Application, which provides Sales Force Automation, ERP/CRM, Catalog Management, Server Lifecycle, Network Monitoring, and internal intranet.

Technologies Deployed: Python, PHP, PostgreSQL, Linux, xmlrpc, HTML/CSS/JavaScript

May 2000 - Sept. 2001
Par Avance - Boulder, CO
Staff Engineer

About Par Avance: Par Avance is a consulting firm in Boulder, CO, specializing in e-commerce, application hosting, and web-based business systems. Par Avance's clients have included Lucent Technologies and the United States Olympic Committee.

Key Contributions:
  • Because Par Avance is a small firm that aspires to meet whatever needs its clients have, I was met with a wide range of challenges; communicating directly with both technical and non-technical customers, administering BSDi and Linux servers, and rapidly developing custom software solutions.
  • I brought Python to Par Avance, using it in the development of Suite 280 Tracker, Par Avance's Workflow and Issue Management Solution. On a team with just one other developer, we built Suite 280 Tracker from the bottom up, working with Sales and Marketing to balance market demands with resource constraints.

Technologies Deployed: Perl, Python, MySQL, BSDi, Linux, HTML, XML

Sept. 1999 - May 2000
MessageMedia - Boulder, CO
Database-Web Developer; Intern

About MessageMedia: MessageMedia was the leader in email permission marketing for the Internet boom. It provided its clients with consulting and advice for email marketing strategies, as well as providing them to tools and services for deploying their email campaigns. MessageMedia had industry-leading strict opt-in policies, and strictly enforced its AUP. DoubleClick acquired MessageMedia in the summer of 2001.

Key Contributions:
  • I single-handedly developed a work meta-data tracking system using context-relevant ontologies. By scanning the progress of large customer database imports and reporting on them, the system allowed staff to manage their time better by monitoring the progress macro database insertions, the status of jobs, and who was working on what.

Technologies Deployed: Python, ZOPE, Solaris, and Oracle8i.
